Seriously. In all fairness I started this quilt before I started the colorbrick quilt. I get bored with large quilts and needed a break from my king size colorbrick. So I whipped this out in a few days time. It was already cut out (I cut it when I was in Colorado). It went fast and I love it! Its bright and happy, has polka dots and stripes, and screams summer to me. I don't think you could sit under this quilt and be grumpy. The pattern is Penny Lane by Abbey Lane Quilts. Check out their cutey blog here: Abbey Lane Quilts. They have lots of cute stuff: bags, pillows, quilts. Not affiliated, just a happy quilter.
Hmm, now to find a backing and make the binding. There was a lot of left over fabric after all the pieces were cut out, so I think Ill just make the binding scrappy. I think the backing might get a few chunks of fabric from the front, but I do think the majority of it needs to be one piece to combat the happiness on the front. Maybe a cute polka dot? Hmmm. We will see. Once I have that all squared away, it will go on the "needs to be quilted" pile where it will age for awhile!
Ive been quilting away on customer quilts, tickling Little G, doing laundry, putting away dishes. I feel like if I miss a day of doing all the normal house stuff, it just balloons out of control! Why must this be my domain? Seriously, if someone had told me that all this junk would be my responsibility as an adult, I might not have been in such a hurry to be all grown up. Who am I kidding? If someone had told me this in my youth, I probably wasn't listening. Anyways. I don't mind doing it, I mind having to do it over and over and over and over and over . . . Surely someone else in this house knows how to work the washer and dryer. Just sayin'.
Mom FAIL of the night:
Me: Hey Matt can you keep an eye on Little G so I can get a solid hour of work in tonight?
Matt: Sure, no problem.
Me: Run down to the studio to continue working on a customer quilt. Hear very loud thud upstairs. Then hear screaming from Little G. Do my very best not to run upstairs to fix the problem, Matt is perfectly capable.
Matt: Brings Little G downstairs to show me the boo boo, there's blood pouring out of the nose/mouth region.
Me: First thought "Great, now I have to get blood out of your guys clothes." Not, "Oh poor baby are you okay?" or "What happened?". Nope, not me. My brain automatically went to "thanks for making more work." Hmm maybe I should work on that.
But in all seriousness, Little G is just fine. Just one of many boo boos to come.
Another finish for the day, "The Translator: A Tribesman's Memoir of Darfur" by Daoud Hari. This was a very interesting read. It was hard to read at times. It still boggles my mind that human beings are capable of such horrible things. The thing that made it possible for me to continue reading this book was the amazing attitude that Daoud brought to all things.
Alright, I'm off to wrap up things here. Anybody know the best way to get blood out of linen? I'm just joking! :)
